Mission Committee members Judy Arpin & Susy Reitz

Each senior living community in the Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America system has a Mission Committee comprised of volunteers who are responsible for supporting and enhancing the services provided at each local campus. At Salina Presbyterian Manor, we are fortunate to have Judy Arpin and Susy Reitz as members of our dedicated and hard-working Mission Committee. Here’s a little more about them.

Judy Arpin

For almost the past year, Judy Arpin has been attending Mission Committee meetings and providing input on goals they have set. Her inspiration for serving on this committee is the people.

“I have seen first-hand the amazing work of the Presbyterian Manor staff. I love to be involved in projects that further the mission of Presbyterian Manor.”

Judy’s connection with PMMA is a family affair. She has had three family members live in the community – her father, mother and an aunt. They were all patients in the healthcare area.

“I was so pleased my family members could live in a community that inspires its staff members to provide outstanding care to the residents as well as the family members. The care for you and/or your loved one is outstanding. It’s a beautiful campus with dedicated staff who care about the resident as well as the resident’s family.”

Judy is a substitute teacher/para with the Salina School District. She volunteers with several agencies in the community and enjoys working with adults and children. She and her husband Ken have been married for almost 38 years and have two children and two grandchildren.

Susy Reitz

As a member of the Mission Committee for almost four years, Susy works to support Salina Presbyterian Manor’s mission and projects.

“I appreciate that PMMA’s mission is to continue its 70-year mission to provide quality senior services guided by Christian values. It is a large, complex and challenging task to serve residents at various levels of needs that change as each resident ages.”

Like Judy, Susy’s connection with Salina Presbyterian Manor is personal.

“My mother is currently a resident and my mother-in-law was a resident, which has given me many years of personal opportunities to be a part of the Salina Presbyterian Manor and realize how important their job is in providing a warm, compassionate, safe, healthy environment for so many residents with so many differing needs and levels of health. Serving on the Mission Committee has given me a deeper understanding of the many ways the Salina Presbyterian Manor works to provide care as well as works to enrich residents’ lives. Mission Committee meetings help us as committee members understand how they work to not only assess the present but keep looking toward future needs.”

For others considering life at the Presbyterian Manor, Susy shares this: “I feel an important consideration in finding senior living is to find a place where all levels of care – independent, assisted living, memory, skilled nursing – are available at the same campus. I watched my parents need to change levels of care while living in Lawrence and how important it was to be in the same community. I witness couples at Salina Presbyterian Manor who may be living at different levels of care but are able to share meals together and attend the many wonderful activities that are available together - such as Jody’s daily exercise class and Rojean Loucks’ monthly harp concert. It is heartwarming to see them enjoy many parts of their day together.”

Susy was an elementary teacher and principal from 1974 to 2006 in Salina. She has been married to her husband Sid for 27 years. She has two children and three step-children. Her favorite “hobby” is being a grandmother to five grandchildren, and she loves to travel, dabble with art, piano and gardening.
