Mary's Musings: The plans He has for us
By Mary Bridges, Chaplain
“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’” (Jeremiah 29:11, NIV).
This scripture has spoken to me throughout my life. Most of the time, it has been a comfort. Occasionally, I have questioned God: “Really? How is this obstacle going to bring hope for the future?” This past couple of years have been challenging, and many of us are questioning where we are headed.
My plan was to someday retire from Salina Presbyterian Manor. You know what they say: “You make plans, and God laughs.” I was given an opportunity that I could not pass up, and I am leaving to serve as a chaplain for Salina Hospice. The position will enable me to facilitate more grief and loss groups in our community, work I love and feel called to do.
I will also work fewer hours and enjoy a more flexible schedule. I look forward to having lunch with my hubby every day and spending more time with a new great-grandson, who is expected in August.
Although I am looking forward to a new chapter in my life, leaving this community will be heart-wrenching. Over the years, scores of residents and family members have shared their life journeys with me. I have an enormous amount of affection for them and for our hardworking and dedicated staff. I will miss everyone immensely.
I will continue to pray for all of you in my daily devotions. Blessings to each of you, “until our paths cross again.”
