Salina Presbyterian Manor Shares Latest Update On Covid-19 1/22

Salina Presbyterian Manor has identified 17 additional cases of COVID-19 at the campus this week, as infection rates in Saline County remain high. In addition, two residents who previously tested positive for the virus have died.

“It is always difficult when a resident dies because our residents are part of our Salina Presbyterian Manor family,” said Christian Gilbert, executive director. “Our team is mourning the loss of these residents. I would invite you to join our team in keeping these residents’ families in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

Nine essential health care employees, four non-direct resident care employees, one student caregiver and one contractor have tested positive for COVID-19. The employees and student last worked various dates between January 12 and January 18, passing pre-shift screening and wearing personal protective equipment as required. The contractor was last in the building on January 18, and also passed entry screening and wore personal protective equipment as required.

Two independent living residents also reported testing positive for COVID-19. The residents will remain in self-isolation in their residences until they meet the Saline County Health Department’s requirements for ending isolation.

The Saline County Health Department has been notified, and the community will follow their guidance. There have been 61 cases detected at the community since December 30 -- 38 employees, 15 residents, 3 students and 5 contract care providers.

Visitation continues with infection control precautions and social distancing requirements per new Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) requirements. Employee surveillance testing will continue in compliance with CMS requirements for testing based on county COVID-19 transmission rates.

The community will follow the PMMA® EID policy and KDHE and CDC guidelines in determining when employees or contractors may return to work and any work restrictions.

Salina Presbyterian Manor encourages all staff members and residents to follow CDC guidelines and best practices as these are continually updated.  We have been screening employees as they enter the community building for a shift and before employees have any direct contact with residents.  We educate all staff to stay at home if they are experiencing symptoms of a respiratory illness or not feeling well.

Every person who receives the vaccine will strengthen the protection for all residents, staff and the community at-large. PMMA continues to strongly encourage our families, employees and residents to carefully consider obtaining a vaccine for themselves as well as their loved ones.
